The Writers Centre – TT’s literary home  that houses Paper Based and the Bocas Lit Fest  – is adding a new dimension to the meaning of “home”.

On 13 November, the Sleepy Cat Cafe opened its doors, adding fresh energy to TT’s storytelling and creative culture. Visitors, book lovers, those looking for a friendly, homely space to work in, have a meeting, or simply pass the time will be able to enjoy a space where the irresistible aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the scent of brand-new paperbacks and the lively hum of book club discussions.

Sleepy Cat Cafe is offering specialty teas, expertly brewed coffee, and locally sourced pastries and cold drinks. The café’s grab-and-go section, developed in partnership with The (Hungry) Plant Lady, features fresh salads, wraps, and snacks for those on the move. Every Friday, patrons can enjoy a comforting soup special to round off the week.

The café, founded on a passion for cats, books, food, and the restorative power of sleep, is the creation of Kiana Hart. She is keen for Sleepy Cat Café’s long-established and popular book club, with nearly 200 active members, to start holding regular meetings at The Writers Centre.

The café’s programme will add to the Bocas Lit Fest regular events, offering a wider range of thought-provoking book discussions, poetry readings, book launches and other events, making for a true book lover’s paradise.

CEO of the Bocas Lit Fest, Jean-Claude Cournand says,Bocas Lit Fest is looking forward to building on our vision of a thriving space for writers and readers. Our partnership with Sleepy Cat Café and Book Club, together with Paper Based Bookshop, creates a one-of-a-kind literary destination. Together we are creating an environment where stories, conversation, and community flourish, all under one roof.”

Kiana Hart adds, “The beauty of Sleepy Cat Cafe lies in the warmth of good company, shared stories, a cozy nook, and the simple joys of life—  images of curled up cats, real books, and yummy treats.”  Sleepy Cat Cafe promises to be a haven where book lovers and food enthusiasts alike will feel right at home.
