Global Trinidad and Tobago reaffirms its commitment to fostering economic diversification and sustainable growth by supporting locally-produced films like Queen of Soca.

The success of recent local films are positioning the country as a rising hub in the global creative industries. The highly anticipated film by award- winning filmmaker Kevin Adams premieres nationwide on October 17, 2025, through leading cinema chains including Caribbean Cinemas and MovieTowne.

The film tells the compelling story of Olivia, a talented young singer who defies social norms and family expectations to pursue her dreams through soca music. Starring acclaimed talent including Terri Lyons and Penelope Spencer, Queen of Soca highlights the vibrancy of T&T’s culture while leveraging the expertise of top-tier production teams, music producers, and filmmakers from the region.

Queen of Soca showcases how investment in visual storytelling and the arts drives revenue generation, creates jobs, and unlocks new export markets for Trinidad and Tobago. Supported by key partners such as Methanol Holdings Ltd., Maritime Financial, and the National Lottery Board, the film exemplifies the potential of the creative sector to contribute materially to the country’s economic portfolio.

Global Trinidad and Tobago, formed through the merger of CreativeTT, InvesTT, and ExporTT, proudly highlights that FilmTT and MusicTT—now key divisions within this national promotional agency—provided crucial support to Queen of Soca at its proof of concept stage, enabling the film to move from vision to production.

This early backing demonstrates Global Trinidad and Tobago’s holistic approach to nurturing creative projects that not only celebrate local culture but also unlock investment opportunities and economic growth.

Leslie Ann Wills Caton, Film Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago, notes:
“The success of Queen of Soca underscores how our audiovisual sector is ripe with opportunity
for investment, innovation, and global reach. Productions like this generate extensive employment across multiple creative disciplines, fostering skills development and economic empowerment. Supporting local films is central to building a resilient, diversified economy — one that celebrates our culture while driving meaningful financial returns.”

The film’s production mobilized a diverse workforce encompassing actors, technicians, producers, and music professionals, contributing to income flow within the creative and allied industries. Additionally, the film’s anticipated box office success domestically and potential for international festival screenings pave the way for foreign exchange earnings and raise Trinidad and Tobago’s profile within the global film marketplace.

Global Trinidad and Tobago invites investors and stakeholders to explore the promising opportunities emerging within the creative economy, where strategic partnerships and innovative funding models can multiply benefits for communities, businesses, and the nation at large.
