Paperbased Bookshop is teaming up with Sleepy Cat Cafe to present another delicious serving of their Books & Brews series of readings and discussions by authors.
The event will take place from 4 to 5pm on Saturday 16 August at The Writers Centre, 14 Alcazar St, Port of Spain.
The latest edition will feature Stuart W. Fortune, author of From Ibadan to Hell Yard – a novella spanning the “tumultuous era from the early 1800s to 1962, where Trinidad & Tobago becomes the stage for the stirring tales of John, Sally, Jackson, and Jacob, and the genesis of the renowned Hell Yard.”

According to the publishers “The novella intertwines through significant events like slavery, the Canboulay Riot, Emancipation, suppression of African culture, and the relentless pursuit of independence. Yoruba & Orisha customs, Carnival, Canboulay, Patois, and the inception of the Steelpan infuse the narrative with vibrant cultural hues.”Â
Fortune will read passages from the book and will discuss the themes featured throughout.
Attendees can treat themselves to the wide selection of brews from the cozy Sleepy Cat Cafe – which offers fresh juices, kombucha, matcha, teas, coffee and wellness shots among others. There will also be tasty sweet and savoury pastries, pies and salads available.
Ibadan to Hell Yard will available at Paperbased Bookshop – home of the largest and most diverse Caribbean titles all in one charming little shop.
Admission is Free, but since space is limited, registration is recommended.
