Book lovers are invited to ‘An Evening of Tea and Readings’ with Paper Based Bookshop, first of their 2025 series, on Saturday, June 14th, 5:30 pm, at The Hotel Normandie.
A quintet of writers, specializing in literary and speculative fiction, nonfiction steeped in social history, and poetry, will take to the podium:

Ryan Bachoo, popular multimedia journalist for the past fifteen years, makes his Tea and Readings debut with his first novel, An Unending Search, a poignant story of self-determination against harsh odds in South Trinidad’s 1970s.

Anu Lakhan, editorial triage consultant, brings her long-awaited full-length poetry collection, The Proper Care of Knives, to our gathering: in his Trinidad and Tobago Newsday review, Andre Bagoo called these poems “luminous and moving”.

Richard Charan, veteran journalist and multimedia editor with the One Caribbean Communications Network, will present from The Village of One, which explores T&T’s history through its oft-forgotten places, individuals, and submerged narratives.

R.S.A. Garcia, Nebula and Sturgeon Award winning writer of speculative fiction, reveals the world of The Nightward to us, in her novel of women-warrior magicians, high fantasy inflected by Caribbean mythology, and a child queen-to-be on the run.

Celeste Mohammed, winner of the 2022 OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature, will share from her second novel-in-stories, Ever Since We Small, in narratives of resilience, tradition, and survival, wound up in her signature striking prose style.
According to the event’s organisers “Every day, your company and support prove to us that T&T and Caribbean stories matter, more than ever. We can’t wait to celebrate them with you on June 14th.”
