Soca superstars DJ Private Ryan and Patrice Roberts have teamed up with the 6-piece genre-bending musical ensemble Freetown Collective on a new track called “World on Fire”. It is a crossover track to capture the likes of Latin lovers. The track features Nigel Rojas, guitarist and co-founder of the rock-reggae band Orange Sky. His talented playing of the guitar brings out a true Latin experience. “World on Fire” speaks to the bond between two souls entwined in a love affair. Yet this is no ordinary love story.

Overall, I feel improvements can be made to the mix to bring out those underlying Latin tones. Hats off to the producers and singers for jumping out of the box to capture a different market.

What carries the song is the infectious Zouk/Soca riddim. The riddim has a sweet groove to nice up any party. I look forward to seeing other artists perform on the track. I feel to take the song to the next level a more hyped chorus is needed.

The song has a simple yet effective beat with a sing-along chorus that blends perfectly with the melody “Tobago and Trini Woman”. The track should go down well on the radio with a fair amount of airplay. I feel some of the musical tones could be enhanced to make the track more vibrant. Towards the end of the track, more excitement is needed in the outro, to add some more flavour.

A lovely song, that introduces revellers to Tobago Carnival. The song focuses mainly on instructions. However, I feel there is room for a sing-along chorus.

The track starts with a mandolin-style intro that gives the feeling it could be a Christmas song in which Rome is so known. However no part of the song Rome mentions Christmas. A song with a hilarious chorus “Post Him”. It is about the girls who receive fancy belongings. Yet they dare her to post the people-man on Instagram. It is all about bacchanal and I look forward to seeing the video.

Eddie Charles – Coca Tea

A soca parang track with a double meaning that is sure to spice up the Christmas fiestas. An easy singalong chorus that perfectly matches the melody. “Coca tea in the morning, coca tea in the evening, Coca tea in broad daylight, coca tea on Christmas night. Hot! Hot! coca tea is the best Christmas gift for she.” Eddie is a veteran in the soca parang arena and every season he gets better and better.
