To mark Jamaican Independence Day, the heartfelt and cinematic music video for “Born In Jamaica,” the first single from industry trailblazer Natalie Prospere’s compilation album Friends Only: Volume 1, was released on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The track unites Grammy®-nominated roots-reggae artist Jesse Royal, genre-blending emerging artist MediSun, and reggae legend Beres Hammond. Produced by one of Jamaica’s most sought-after young producers, JLL, the song celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Jamaica with powerful vocals and an infectious rhythm.
Shot on location in Jamaica, the video is the first music video co-directed by Paris Hines and Keaton Greene—two rising filmmakers with a shared passion for striking, emotionally driven visuals. Paris’s sharp creative direction combined with Keaton’s refined visual sensibility results in a bold and balanced collaboration that brings depth and texture to every frame. Adding to the visual narrative, acclaimed filmmaker and photographer Khalik Allah contributed additional footage from his celebrated film Black Mother. This archival material enriches the emotional and cultural depth of the vibrant final piece.
The video is also a special treat for fans of Beres Hammond. Known for his soulful delivery and rare video appearances, Hammond’s presence lends a timeless authenticity. The “Born In Jamaica” video is a true love letter to Jamaica: the boat scene was filmed in Port Royal, a recently named UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Jamaican Tourist Board, recognizing the project’s cultural significance, proudly collaborated on the production.
