Sweet Lyrix Comedy Show January 30th to Raise Funds
Lyrix, aka Louris Martin Lee-Sing auditioned for an International Comedy festival last August, 2024. She was thrilled when she got the letter of acceptance for the Black Women in Comedy Laff Festival to be held in Manhattan, New York from February 26th to March 3rd.
The festival had a place for her but could not cover her expenses. Lyrix had been writing and performing her Stand -Up comedy for seven years. She decided that comedy should pay for comedy and the fundraiser show, Sweet Lyrix blossomed into being.
The show takes place on Thursday 30th January, at Kafe Blue on Wrightson Rd. The show starts at 7:30pm with an open mic pre-show. Lyrix has been a stand-up comedian since 2018. She is a founder of the feminist comedy group Fem Com TT and the popular Laugh on the Ave comedy company.
This her first show as a solo producer with herself as the feature performer. Lyrix felt it was necessary to push herself out of her comfort zone. “The show is going to be a lot of fun. Quite a few of the people who have bought tickets haven’t really seen me perform live so I think they will be pleased.
Each of the performers is giving their time and talent for free to support Lyrix’s fundraising. Its a great line up.
Zakiya Gill an amazing spoken word poet and performer known as Griot will be performing an original comedic spoken word piece for the show.
Lyrix’s husband Wayne Lee Sing, a Carnival Theatre writer and performer brings a comedic Dame Lorraine and the funny calypso Sprangers for a touch of Carnival.
Niques Francois brilliant comedy writer performer, producer, and teacher will be sharing her comedic Granny character singing a raunchy soca hit.
Kwame Weekes brings his unique brand of hilarious Stand Up to leave the audience weak.Â
Kevin Soyer is one of the funniest stand-up comedians in T&T and his sharp style bites while you laugh your head off. Last but not least our MC is the one and only Thaddy Boom the harbinger of vibes is our MC for the night.Â
Lyrix is confident that she will represent Trinidad and Tobago well in the USA and appreciates the support of her friends, colleagues and family in getting her to the Festivql in February.
