While the Christmas Season may be winding down, and people are preparing for Carnival, let us take a moment to reflect on last weekend’s Parang with Rome.

The event, which was held at Cipriani College, Valsayn, was well received by the thousands who attended and saw a slew of local stars come out including Neil ‘Iwer’ George, Nailah Blackman, Ravi B (Ravi Bissambhar), Crazy (Edwin Ayoung), Baron (Timothy Watkins), Wendy Fitzwilliams,Tobago’s parang BOSS Bindley B and so many more.

However, the culmination was the honouring of Marcia Miranda, who has been given the sobriquet The Parang Soca Queen.

She was given a lifetime achievement award by Minister of Tourism Randall Mitchell, and thanked for all her contributions, both locally and international, for this country.

The event was hosted by Jerome ‘Rome’ Precilla, who was also the headline act.

Rome has become a household name for his soca-parang hits over the years including “pone man” and the “watermelon gyal” and of course, this year’s collaboration with Nailah Blackman, ‘It’s Christmas’. Rome seamlessly blends traditional parang with the infectious energy of soca.

Speaking with Express XVibes, Rome thanked all those who came out and supported, as well as all those who were involved in the event.
