FilmTT launched On Set, the second edition of the Business of Film: Script to Screen Programme, in March 2022 with an Open Call for scripts which resulted in thirty-eight (38) submissions. Seventeen (17) submissions were shortlisted to virtually pitch their television concepts for a chance to be a part of the Writers’ Room.

On 3rd May, for the first time ever, The Trinidad and Tobago Film Industry Company Limited (FilmTT) held an interactive virtual pitch session for On Set by inviting the public to be a part of the selection process for the Writers’ Room via Zoom. The audience was allowed to ‘have their say’ by voting for their favourite script pitch. Five (5) presenters were selected for the Writers’ Room; these presenters were Kevin Soyer, Richard Ragoobarsingh. Penelope Spencer, Kwame Weekes and Alexander Johnson.

The five presenters will now go on to attend an in-person, 2-day retreat that includes capacity development and networking engagements on the 28th and 29th of May. The retreat will end with the Showrunner Pitch; the writers will pitch to a panel of judges led by TTT Limited for the selection of Showrunner. Once the Showrunner is selected, all the participating writers will return in June for the Script Development.

“We were truly impressed by the quality of submissions we received for the Writers’ Room Open Call and even more enthralled by the pitches and the number of persons who logged in to ‘have their say’ in the selection process. It’s always great to see our audience taking an invested interest in the outcomes of the many capacity building Programmes facilitated by FilmTT. We look forward to working alongside these 5 talented writers in the On Set edition of the Script to Screen Programme and are excited to develop a television series that we can all be proud of.” – Leslie Ann Wills-Caton, General Manager, FilmTT.

The Business of Film: Script to Screen Programme is a capacity development, content creation and business opportunity initiative presented in collaboration with local and international agencies. On Set is a 5-month production incubator to create a 5-episode (22 mins per episode) television series in collaboration with Trinidad and Tobago Television Limited (TTT) and exporTT.

Through On Set, FilmTT’s goal is to re-energize the local audio-visual sector by presenting engaging capacity development programmes. Initiatives like these include on-the-job training opportunities, as a means to facilitate and develop a more ambitious local audio-visual sector. On Set is also positioned as a foundation for industry standard programmes, that encourage public-private sector investment in the production of marketable audio-visual content, fit for an international audience.
