The Trinidad and Tobago Film Company Limited (FilmTT) is accompanying four local filmmakers to the UK for the UK Global Screen Fund event on 9th October. The UK Global Screen Fund (UKGSF) is designed to boost international development, production, distribution, and promotional opportunities for the UK’s independent screen sector. Participating in this event alongside FilmTT are filmmakers Lesley Anne MacFarlane, Lisa Wickham, Michelle Mohammed and Nigel Thompson.

The UKGSF is focused on accelerating export growth and deepening international relationships with the UK. Aimed at boosting the international competitiveness of UK screen content whilst growing the revenues, reach and partnerships of domestic independent businesses, the fund is constructed to help develop and produce projects with international appeal, support the worldwide distribution of UK content, and encourage collaboration with international partners. FilmTT received an invitation to the event from the British Film Institute following a successful meeting on September 1st at the Realtime International Film Festival (RTF) in Nigeria. The meeting was the outcome of preliminary discussions between EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs) and FilmTT, facilitated by Lisa Wickham.

From August 19th to September 3rd FilmTT attended the RTF in Lagos, Nigeria to participate as a collaborator and industry session panelist under the auspices of the co-production agreement between local film company Lanniup Consultancy and the Realtime International Film Festival. FilmTT took advantage of this personal connection with Nollywood as it is the second largest film industry in the world producing over 2000 films a year. The invitation by the RTF founder suggested that the festival could be a productive market, putting FilmTT directly in touch with viable target marketing for T&T locations and co-productions.

FilmTT participated in panels, presentations and networking events that took place during the event. To increase the impact of Brand T&T, FilmTT’s market presence was managed by Leslie Ann Wills-Caton, General Manager.

“FilmTT has been actively promoting Trinidad and Tobago as an attractive location for film, television, commercial and short productions by increasing its international visibility. We have created leads in Nigeria and are currently following up to ensure that the local film industry benefits from them.” – Leslie Ann Wills Caton, General Manager, FilmTT.
