EXHIBITION: The Sale of the Private Collection of a Distinguished Gentleman and Other Properties
30/4 to 7/5/2022
101 ART GALLERY
THE contrast in situations invites an intriguing comparison. In one corner there is the street-side outdoor patio depicted in Al Fresco, Boston, with hints of fine framing starting to become apparent (especially with the tree on one side and the marquee on the other).
In the opposite corner, there is Port of Spain’s notable Knowsley House sharing the same space with a Cannon Ball Tree in the straightforwardly-titled, “Knowsley/Cannon Ball Tree”, an example of expertly-executed natural framing.
Apart from being oil on canvas paintings, both works share the same creator: the late Lisa O’Connor, who produced Al Fresco in 1983 as an 18-year old student at the Art Institute of Boston and was actually photographed, 35 years later, as she worked on Knowsley: by 2018, two years before her passing, she had long transitioned from being a youthful art student to becoming a sage-like cornerstone of canvas craftsmanship.
Well, it so happens that both paintings will be on display during The Sale of the Private Collection of a Distinguished Gentleman and Other Properties, an exhibition that will be taking place from April 30 to May 7 at the 101 Art Gallery in Newtown.
Almost 200 paintings and sculptures by Michel Jean Cazabon, Agostino Brunias, Carlisle Chang, Ken Morris, James Wildman, both Holder brothers, Boscoe and Geoffrey, plus Mahmoud Pharouk Alladin and Pat Bishop, among several others, will be occupying the same space as O’Connor’s work during the eight-day show, with activities being conducted from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on each day (though, to give full-disclosure, all the pieces are already in place at the venue). For the rest of the exhibition, the daily times are noon to 6 p.m.
As one can tell from the name, the works on display are also available for purchase.
