Following a Road trip to St Helena last month, the popular Family Reading Circle returns to The Writers Centre on Saturday 19 July.
Hosted by the Bocas Lit Fest in collaboration with Let’s Read, the popular Family Reading Circle is an interactive, entertaining read-aloud session ideal for children 7 years old and younger. It makes reading fun and brings books alive for little ones, setting the foundation for a lifelong love of reading, and helping build crucial language, comprehension, and emotional skills.
Young children can learn all about their heart, lungs, kidneys, skeleton, stomach and intestines and other body parts from the interactive and attractive children’s book “Meet the World Inside You” by featured writer Dr. Afiya Gaspard.
Dr. Afiya Gaspard is a medical doctor who works in the Pediatric Department of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in the Pediatric department. She describes ‘Meet the World Inside of You’ as “a little book with a big personality.” Her goal is to encourage children to be more inquisitive and to make learning about their bodies cute and fun.
Described as an educational children’s book with a twist, “Meet The World Inside You” is interactive, and engaging for children ages 3 to 7. It is filled with colourful cartoon-style illustrations by D de Nobriga reminiscent of classic children’s animation. “I even made it interactive with adorable characters, by including heart sounds and encouraging children to touch their chest to feel their heartbeat. The air going into and coming out of the lungs is a myriad of colours in order to grab their attention in contrast to the dark background of the page.” Dr Gaspard explained to HER Magazine in an interview in April of this year.
As usual, Let’s Read will delight the children with expressive read- aloud sessions and will bring along their large children’s book library for the little ones to explore with their parents and each other.
