On Saturday 27 September, Paperbased Bookshop is teaming up with Sleepy Cat Cafe to a serve a serious, animated edition of their Books & Brews series of readings and discussions by authors.

Books & Brews will take place from 3 to 4pm on Saturday 27 September at The Writers Centre, 14 Alcazar St, Port of Spain.

The book in focus at the reading and discussion is Race, Class and, Nationalism in The 21st Century Caribbean , co-edited by Scott Timcke and Shelene Gomes. It questions the dynamics of race, class, and nationalism in the twenty-first century Caribbean.

Trinidad-based authors and academics, Savrina Chinien, Shelene Gomes, Dylan Kerrigan, and Jerome Teelucksingh, the contributors to this book will be present to share how the collection explores this question through a range of stories and analyses from around the Caribbean: the literature of Martiniquan Patrick Chamoiseau, Garifuna struggling with dispossession and deportation in the Bay of Trujillo, the social geography of Woodbrook, the symbols of nationhood in Trinidad and Tobago, and the more practical matters of the invisible labours of care that keep families and societies going. Departing from either/or answers, it also incorporates the range of Caribbean experiences while emphasising shared histories and futures.

Attendees can treat themselves to the delicious selection of brews from the popular Sleepy Cat Cafe – which offers fresh juices, kombucha, matcha, teas, coffee and wellness shots among others. There will also be tasty sweet and savoury pastries, pies and salads available.

Race, Class and, Nationalism in The 21st Century Caribbean will available at Paperbased Bookshop – home of the largest and most diverse Caribbean titles all in one charming little shop.

Admission is Free, but since space is limited, registration is recommended. Call 385 3256 to register.
