Three Trinidadian poets will receive the Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Literary Honours of 2022.
The literary accolades are annually awarded to the most proficient writers by the “World’s most active writer’s forum” Motivational Strips and the literary journal SIPAY, owned by the Government of Seychelles’ Department of Culture.
This year, Trinidadian poets Omatee Ann Marie Hansraj, Arjune Teeluck and Sarah Ramphal, were selected for the award.
The announcement of awardees was made by Motivational Strips Founder and President Shiju H Pallithazheth and its Forum Director Sabrina Bryan on Saturday according to a statement sent to the Express by Motivational Strips on Sunday.
The decision was made based on, “poetic mastery and didactic values,” displayed in the poems submitted, it said.
With members from more than 167 countries, the Motivational Strips forum’s evaluation of the Trinidadian authors found poems, “enriched by sagacity,” and “profound findings.”
The Founder and President of Motivational Strips stated, “These three Trinidadian poets have immensely contributed to world poetry and their poems have profound findings and realisations. Such poems enriched with sagacity get wider readership and keep poetry as the vital medium for psychic empowerment.”
According to the statement, the SIPAY journal’s chief editor, Magie Faure Vidot, called the Trinidadian poets “globally blessed.”
“(Vidot) stated during the award declaration that poetry is a divine art and that the Trinidadian poets are globally blessed with exceptional talent in such a cosmic art. Ms Magie also added that she looks forward to Trinidadian poets being role models for global poets in the coming years,” it said.
