MusicTT Celebrates World Steelpan Day United Nations Recognition.

The Trinidad & Tobago Music Company Limited (MusicTT), proudly joins in the celebration of August 11th being declared and observed as ‘World Steelpan Day’ by the United Nations. MusicTT wishes to extend an official, hearty congratulations to the people of Trinidad and Tobago for this extraordinary accomplishment championed by the World Steelpan Thrust, PanTrinbago and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts. World Steelpan Day pays homage to the rich cultural heritage and musical brilliance of the steelpan.

Ms. Melissa Jimenez, MusicTT GM shared “The significance of World Steelpan Day lies in its recognition of the steelpan’s remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming a global symbol of cultural expression for the people of Trinidad & Tobago and Caribbean diaspora. It is a testament to the ingenuity, creativity, and resilience of the people of Trinidad & Tobago. The art form has transformed the way we perceive music and has captivated the hearts of enthusiasts worldwide. MusicTT continues to be committed to supporting and growing steelpan’s recognition on the world stage as well as building the business capacity of musicians and professionals in the steelpan sector.”

PanTrinbago, the world governing body for the steelpan, has been at the forefront of preserving and promoting this integral aspect of Trinidad & Tobago’s cultural heritage. World Steelpan Day celebrations are not limited to Trinidad & Tobago as it resonates with steelpan enthusiasts, musicians, and culture lovers worldwide. This recognition from the United Nations highlights the steelpan’s global significance as an ambassador of peace, cultural diversity, and social inclusion.

As part of this year’s celebration, The World Steelpan Thrust will be presenting a “World Steelpan Village” on August 11th, 4pm at The Rotunda (Augustus Williams Playground), corner Roberts Street and Murray Street, Woodbrook. Some of the featured acts include Dr. Len Boogsie sharpe, Earl Rodney, Cadenza steelpan Ensemble, St. Mary’s Government Primary School Ensemble and many more. The event will also be live streamed via World Steelpan Thrust Facebook page. Admission is FREE.
