Making Dreams a Reality at 50 with a One-Woman Show
Celebrated Educator and Visual & Performing Artist, Dr. Danielle Elliott becomes her performer persona Danielle Debonair for “From Belmont to Brooklyn…And Back – a One-Woman Show.” This one-night-only performance of original work takes place on Thursday, July 28th, 2022 at Kafe Blue (formerly Kaiso Blues) on Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.
Days away from her 50th birthday, the artist is seizing the moment to celebrate life and make dreams a reality. “There is no time like the present,” she says. “If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s the value of life. We deserve this time to come together to reflect, to be courageous enough to find laughter in the sweet and the savory. Big woman tings!”

Debonair starred in the title role of the successful 2021 production The Revenge of King Jab Jab, a digital version of which was accepted into the Toronto Fringe Festival later that year. Additionally, she is honoured to have worked with theatre luminaries Wendell Manwarren and Ellen Camps, respectively, in the Mentoring by the Masters Project offered by the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts.
So, what happens when you leave Trinidad for the U.S. right after secondary school, and return to T&T as a full-fledged adult just in time to ride out a global lockdown, Trinbago style? Well, one thing you get for sure is time to reflect on life and long-held dreams. Danielle Debonair has been dreaming about this show since 2008, collecting and crafting stories that explore the people, places and experiences that shape who we eventually become.
The show is a humorous, thought-provoking journey of self-discovery, dramatized through a series of narrative vignettes. Debonair deftly plays a cast of characters ranging from a little girl to a mature woman, as she maps the lessons one learns on this journey.
