
On February 23, Christchurch Cascade will be showcasing the talents of The Angels School of Music at a special concert celebrating the life of writer and arts lover Ivor Skinner.
“A Broadway Carnival” is directed by Christine Cardinez, who has been consistent in directing and producing shows musicals over the years. Ms Cardinez is also the director of the Angels Music School, where she has quided numerous children throughout their musical start and journey. She emphasises the importance of music for creative and critical development. She notes “There is al ot of attention placed on exams and marks, but the world of music and creativity is that which can make the ordinary, extraordinary. Be enticed by music.”

The ‘Angels’ will be joined by special guest performers, notably international dramatic soprano, Anne Friday. She noted her eager anticipation of the concert in a Face Book post last month, “It brings back great memories for me in returning to perform with them. The greatest joy is to work with children and Christine the Director, has a special bond with the kids.”
Trini born Anne Fridal lives and works in england . After her studies at The Royal College in London, she spent wonderful years singing and touring with “Porgy and Bess”. She is the creator of ‘calypsopera’, the style of singling calypsoes in the operatic style. She has been very influential in promoting the music of Trinidad and Tobago and has performed at some of the most acclaimed events and venues worldwide – including performing for Barack Obama.
Baritone Marvin Smith is a journalist with his degree from University of The West Indies . He has caotivated audiences with his renarkable performances and twice won Trinidad and Tobago’s Music Festival as Most Outstanding Vocalist . His command of singing in several languages and styles and his ability to follow the rigorous demands of competition shows his adherence to excellence. He has done groundbreaking performances in the UK, Europe and the United States at world class venues – always the musical ambassador of Caribbean Music.
Other guests include voice and drama performer jeanine Clarke and Leandra Head.

The programme will include excerpts from The Little Mermaid, Cats, Showman and other Broadway and West End productions. Local Calypsopera songs will accompany the performance a cheoreographed version of Shadow’s ‘Dingolay’ with the children in a Calypsopera setting. Audience members will also be invited to dance and sing.
