Not even the impending arrival of category 5 Hurricane Milton to the West Coast of Florida will stop the fortieth anniversary of “Miami Carnival” celebrations scheduled for this coming weekend. That’s the hope of many Carnival lovers, masqueraders, band leaders and the Miami Broward One Carnival Host Committee this week, even as tornado and flood warnings are being issued by authorities for cities and locations higher up north and in the projected path of the storm.

In fact, Northern Florida is expected to be hit hard by this natural disaster, while Southern Florida remains relatively calm and unscathed thus far and up to press time.

The 40th Miami Carnival celebration is set to inject an influx of Caribbean culture into the Sunshine State this coming weekend with Panorama finals scheduled for Friday evening and J’ouvert set for Saturday morning both happening at the Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill.

A release from the Miami Broward One Carnival Host Committee on Monday attempted to reassure the Caribbean/ Carnival community, potential patrons and supporters that the South Florida region, while destined to experience some rain and strong winds, is not expected to take a direct hit from the storm.

The Host Committee insists that “the safety of the community” is their main priority and assured all concerned that they will “check daily to get the most up-to-date information on the South Florida region” and will “actively monitor all weather updates” and provide timely information should any operational changes become necessary.

“Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our attendees, performers, and the community.” Stated the release led by Public Relations Director, Yvette N. Harris. “It has come to our attention that false reports circulating on social media claim that Miami Carnival 2024 has been canceled. We want to emphasize that this information is not true. We encourage you to rely on our official social media channels and website for accurate updates and information regarding all Miami Carnival activities.”The largest Caribbean-style Carnival celebration in North America, the Miami Broward One Carnival will see a host of private parties, fetes and other affiliated events happening in the coming days and nights, all culminating with the grand parade and concert on Sunday, October 13 to be held at the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds in Miami, Florida.

Supported by the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Cultural Affairs Council, Miami-Dade County Mayor, and the Board of County Commissioners, Visit Lauderdale, and Broward County Commission, Miami Carnival invites guests to indulge in a plethora of Caribbean and international delicacies, beverages, and artisan crafts, enriching the celebration of Caribbean culture and pride.
