Paparazzi Carnival is set to celebrate the vibrant tapestry of Trinidadian artistry with its theme”Canvas: Rhythm and Art.” This theme aims to honour and showcase the rich contributions of local artists who have significantly influenced the cultural landscape of the nation over the years. The concept behind “Canvas” emerged from a deep-seated desire to pay homage to the diverse and impactful works of Trinidadian artists. These artists, including luminaries such as Che Lovelace, Shalini Seereram, Sarah Joseph, Nicole Tang, Boscoe Holder, Karin Dawn Kelshall Best, Samantha Rochard, Carlisle Chang, and Tessa Alexander, have not only shaped the visual arts scene but have also left an indelible mark on the spirit of Trinidadian creativity.

Che Lovelace, renowned for his striking and introspective paintings reflecting the essence of Trinidadian life and culture, serves as a cornerstone inspiration for the theme. Shalini Seereram, celebrated for her evocative mixed-media works exploring themes of identity and heritage, adds a contemporary flair to the homage. Sarah Joseph’s bold and colourful compositions, Nicole Tang’s intricate and emotive sculptures, and Boscoe Holder’s iconic dance-inspired paintings further enrich the canvas of Trinidadian artistry.

A TRIBUTE TO TRINIDADIAN ARTISTRY – Karin Dawn Kelshall Best’s for her vibrant and expressive painting depicting Caribbean scenes and culture, Samantha Rochard’s vibrant textile designs, Carlisle Chang’s seminal role in modernizing Trinidadian aesthetics, and Tessa Alexander’s dedication to preserving cultural heritage through visual storytelling all play integral roles in shaping our theme’s narrative.

This theme is not just a celebration but a testament to the enduring legacy of Trinidadian art. It’s a chance to highlight how our local artists have captured our history, our struggles, and our triumphs through their creative expressions. “Canvas: Rhythm and Art” promises to immerse masqueraders in a fusion of colour, rhythm, and cultural pride. From elaborate costumes inspired by the artists’ works to interactive exhibits showcasing their artistic journeys, the presentation will be a vibrant testament to the power of creativity in Trinidadian culture.

Our team of designers inclusive of Alejandro Gomez, Atiba Borde, Anya Ali, Fareid Carvalho, and Kalester Victory are set and ready to showcase their designs. The launch takes place on July 13th at Mille Fleurs from 6pm to 12 midnight. Tickets can be purchased from any committee member or on www.islandetickets.com
