Opening Night Gala Sold Out
Now in its 17th year, the trinidad+tobago film festival (ttff) kicks off this week with its opening night gala on Wednesday 21 September.
Restricted to virtual events for the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, tickets for this week’s in-person, red-carpet event sold out in record time. Film enthusiasts, filmmakers and other industry stakeholders are keen to view the Caribbean premiere of Chee$e, the opening night film by Trinidadian director, Damian Marcano. Marcano will be present at the screening which takes place at iMAX with a pre-screening cocktail reception and an afterparty at the Dalai Llama (Lower Commons, One Woodbrook Place, Woodbrook). The event will feature not only the who’s who of the local film industry, both practitioners and ardent supporters, but also some of ttff’s international guests.
MORE CHEE$E
Another screening of ‘Chee$e’ will be offered to University of the West Indies (UWI) students and other tertiary level students (upon presentation of student id) on Thursday 22 September at the UWI Film Studio. Fans who were unable to secure tickets can also register on the ttff website to catch a free screening on Friday 23 September at the NALIS Amphitheatre at 7:30pm.

In continued celebration of Trinidad and Tobago’s 60 years of independence, ttff with the support of The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC), will also present its love t+t programme – films made in or about Trinidad and Tobago will be screened at MovieTowne, Port of Spain and online on Republic Day (24 September). The MovieTowne screenings (screen 9) will be free all day; online screenings will be available to viewers in the Caribbean, the USA and Canada.

● Pam’s kitchen, directed by David Gwynn ● Sins of the father, directed by Azriel Bahadoor ● The journey and impact of pan on the move – a 50th anniversary tribute to Dr. Ray Holman, directed by Gerelle Forbes ● The incident, directed by Emily Smart ● Venerable: the pioneering achievements of Tobago teacher Norman McNeil, directed by Sonja Dumas.
The festival runs from 22 to 28 September.
