Get ready for an electrifying fusion of Caribbean rhythms and Afrobeats as Trinbagonian rising star, Jose Freedom takes the stage as the only singing opening act for Afrobeats sensation REMA in an unforgettable concert experience set for this Saturday 26th August in Prague, Czech Republic.

The Trinidad and Tobago Music Company Limited (MusicTT) is thrilled to announce the news and extends congratulations to Jose Freedom on this remarkable achievement celebrating this exciting new chapter in his artistic journey.

Jose “Jose Freedom” Jimenez is known most locally as a dancer and choreographer. After graduating from the University of Trinidad and Tobago with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Performing Arts, this jumpstarted his journey into the world of professional performing in 2012, marked by his involvement with the respected dance company, Elle InfiniTT.

Jose’s prowess as a dancer and choreographer flourished over the years, leading him to grace numerous stages alongside both local and international luminaries. Beyond his exceptional talents on stage, Jose dedicated two impactful years to touring schools as a volunteer guest speaker with the Decibel Expo. He engaged students aged 11 to 19, offering valuable insights into the performing arts, Caribbean culture, and his enriching experiences gained from his travels and tours.

In 2020, Jose Freedom embarked on an exciting new adventure, setting his sights on the Czech Republic. Initially motivated by a desire to share the infectious rhythms of Soca music through dance across Europe, his artistic journey took an unexpected turn – music took over as Jose redirected his focus towards becoming a full-time musician. As a member of the vibrant AfroRave Prague community in the Czech Republic, he captivated audiences at various festivals and events, leaving an indelible mark.

General Manager, MusicTT Melissa Jimenez says, “Jose’s story like many others in the music industry – is one of sheer chance and the stars aligning at that moment where WeLit, the promoters of the concert simply contacted AfroRave Prague and said Hey we’re looking for an opening act. The suggestion was made as WeLit had seen him at an open mic prior and said yes, we want him. The thing is, everyone keeps looking for a formula to become the next REMA, Burna Boy, Beyonce but there is none; otherwise, everyone would be doing it. You create an environment for success – put in the work, ensure you have a great product, surround yourself with the right people, push your visibility, network and cross your fingers and toes… MusicTT takes immense pride in celebrating Jose’s achievements and wish him continued success.”

Jose Freedom shared, “I left Trinidad about two and a half years ago with many things I wanted to accomplish. Dance was always something that made sense and came easy to me but I knew I wasn’t content. Music was always my first love, and a leap I was always too afraid to take; but I knew it was either now or never. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that nine months after taking that leap that I’d be on a world stage opening for REMA. If I had to leave one tidbit, I’d encourage others to believe in yourself and surround yourself with the people who love and support you. This is only the beginning of my journey with more great things to come right around the corner (I can’t say any more than that, you’d have to follow me to find out what’s next).”

Jose Freedom is poised to release his debut single at the end of August, marking a significant milestone in his evolving career.
