Summer is approaching and there are lots of new soca releases. The aim of every artist is to increase their fan base by adding new songs to their repertoire. With so many Carnivals around the globe, new releases will help boost their presence in the many markets. Keeping their names active goes a long way in the build-up to T&T’s Carnival 2024. To extend their fan base, artists are singing songs in different genres and collaborating with other artists.

Many of them have stepped out of the box and experimented with the latest music trends from Afro beats to reggae and Hindi.

With the current radio formats, many of these releases will be ignored and will never make it to the next season. For nine months of the year foreign music is always given preference. Some will argue who wants to hear soca right through the year when the music lack structure and is all about instructions. Still, the characteristics of a good song will always remain the same which is an easy sing-a-long chorus that blends perfectly with the melody.

The need to be musically talented is slowly going through the door. To move the crowd it is all about instructions. That is what the party crowd want to hear.
