On Friday 17th November, 8 Finalists competed on a LIVE stage at the HADCO Phase II Pan Groove – Pan Theatre – 13 Hamilton St., Woodbrook for a chance to WIN an all-expense paid trip to represent T&T in Martinique where they will be given the opportunity to meet with some top music executives and have their song featured on a Caribbean compilation album which will be distributed worldwide.

These finalists were Keda Tempro, Luna, Sanika Ward, Kenya Benya, Xaviella, Juss Lizz, Adesoga and Sabella. After a night of great performances, Spotlight 2021 alum Juss Lizz was declared the winner of the Richès Karayib Voices Song Challenge with her rendition of Richie Spice’s ‘Brown Skin’ which had the audience screaming in support.

Elizabeth Waldron, professionally known as Juss Lizz, is a music artist of many genres. Her career started in 2013 where she started off in the Hip Hop field, following in the footsteps of her influences such as Lauryn Hill and Eminem. Juss Lizz was also a member of cohort 3 of MusicTT’s Spotlight Programme, a programme that seeks to identify artistes and instrumentalists who have the potential to advance in the music industry and equips them with the knowledge and tools to leverage their creative talent on the local and worldwide market.

“We are so proud of Juss Lizz. During the Spotlight programme she really shined and her single ‘Best Side’ was a major hit with the masses. She has what it takes to breakthrough and we wish her continued success. Congratulations to the two runners-up as well – Sabella and Keda Tempro and to all the other participants who bared their all and left it all on the stage.” Melissa Jimenez, General Manager, MusicTT

Also performing at Richès Karayib were guest artistes Caribbean Steelpan Connextion who brought the vibes and groove and had the audience dancing away and Kern Sumerville who serenaded with his sweet and sultry voice as well as the steelpan. The event not only showcased some of our rich musical talent, but also highlighted the culinary richness of Chef Nathanael Ducteil from Martinique and Chef Samara Lezama (aka Chef Sam Palam) from T&T who delighted the tastebuds of the audiences with elevated local cuisines.

The Richès Karayib is a collaborative project that aims to make the Caribbean cultural richness shine and exists to promote the cultural industry. MusicTT was the Trinidad and Tobago partner for the Richès Karayib Voices song challenge alongside Vibes Promotions Ltd., 360 Events and MITTCO. The Richès Karayib: T&T Edition was the last stop on the Caribbean caravan. Other participating countries include Martinique, St. Lucia, Anguilla, Barbados, Jamaica, Haiti, Guadeloupe and Dominica.

“Through Richès Karayib, we’re bringing the Caribbean closer together. We are grateful to our partners for making this event possible and we look forward to showcasing all the winners from the islands in Martinique in December.” – Sabrina Ajax, CEO, ASIS W.I.
