“Communicate More With Youths” To Curb School Violence

Greater communication and a lot more listening is needed from parents, teachers and student supervisors in order to reduce incidents of violence in schools today. So say the two teenaged sons of imprisoned Jamaican Dancehall star, Adidjah Palmer aka Vybz Kartel, even as the brothers release their latest musical project, a 13-song collection entitled, Team Different on their own record label, Uptown Gaza Records.

Nineteen-year-old, Adidja Jahiem Palmer aka Likkle Vybz and seventeen-year-old, Akheel Rahiem Palmer aka Likkle Addi are both completing their final years of high school in Jamaica and offered their opinions on the current spate of violence in schools around the region since the return to real classes following the Covid-19 Pandemic lockdowns.
The pair were interviewed by OvertimeTT TV recently and shared their thoughts on remedying the turbulence and relieving the tension, which seems to be overflowing into a sea of violence in schools across the archipelago.
“I think one of the main solutions and things we need to do is communicate more often. We need the adults to sit and talk with the youths and more importantly listen to us,” said “Likkle Addi”. “Communication can go a long way toward solving these issues and that’s where music comes in also cause you can be in a mood or something and then turn on your favorite group like UTG or whomever your favorite artiste may be and listen and get put into a totally different mood. Communication needs to be and should play a key part in our society right now cause if we talk out certain things, we can avoid the unnecessary violence and curb that especially from happening so much in our schools.”

The Palmer brothers reiterated the widespread belief that their father will be freed soon and look forward to reuniting with him in person. The duo revealed that have always loved making music, so following in Kartel’s world-famous footsteps was a no-brainer, but not necessarily their sole objective or mission in life.
“We always love music,” stated Likkle Addi, “so nobody never try fe make us like it or make us do it. We have the love for it just natural, but both our parents always stressed the importance of education and made sure that we understood that and put in the work at school. We have both done well at school in the past so we earned our time in studio and for making music moves. Now that we’re finishing up with school soon that’s why we are able to launch this new project and get back the music.”
With no features at all on the project, the pair says Team Different is meant to showcase their talent and versatility. However,  they have been keeping track of trending acts and plan to collaborate with Trinibad stars such as Prince Swanny and Jahllano, as well as female dancehall favorites like Spice, Shenseea and Jada Kingdom.

“We love rap and dancehall, R&B, Soca, you name it – we listen to everything,” said Likkle Vybz
“And the people can look forward to some collaborations in the future,” added Likkle Addi, “but for now we just wanted to stand on our own and show the world what we can do…”

Distributed by Uptown Gaza Records and OneRPM, Team Different will be released officially on May 6 with pre orders and saves available now on all major platforms.
