Twelve compete against defending Monarch Daddy Chinee

Defending Chutney Soca Monarch Queen Katelin Sultan has not made it to the 2024 Chutney Soca Monarch final.

Her name was not among the 12 artistes, including defending 2023 champion Daddy Chinee, who qualified for this year’s Chutney Soca Monarch.

However, Sultan’s father will compete in the finals.

In a post on her social media page, she wrote: ‘I won’t be defending my title at Chutney Soca Monarch because I wasn’t given the opportunity but I’m still the reigning queen for the next two weeks. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate my Daddy Neeshad Sultan for making it to the finals. Love you daddy. Good luck!’

Katelin Sultan had performed an original song ‘Unity’ at the semi-finals last Saturday.

The annual competition’s semis were held at the Rig Restaurant and Lounge in San Fernando with 32 competitors hoping to advance into the final round.

According to the competition’s promoters, Southex, six women and five men have been selected to move forward.

This year, the competition’s female participants will also be vying for the title of ‘Queen of Chutney Soca’.

This is the first time that an equal number of women and men will compete in the finale, which will be held on Saturday, February 10, at Skinner Park in San Fernando, Southex said. Following the finals, the competition will host a chutney soca party at midnight, to highlight the theme of ‘The Colours of Chutney’, by firing coloured powder into the crowd.

There will be performances from DJ Anna and Simmo, Yung Bredda and Pimpin, Ravi B and Karma, Neval Chatelal, Nishard M, Rooplal G and RG the Band.
