Anthony’s Cari-Jazz Launches Student Music Award Programme.

ANTHONY’S CARI-JAZZ launched its first annual Student Music Award Programme on January 9, 2023.  The goal of the Anthony’s Cari-Jazz Student Music Award is to select an outstanding, talented senior University-level performer and provide him/her with a $10,000 bursary to Support, Enhance, and Promote his/her success.

Established by Anthony Maillard, the Programme has two stages and is designed for musicians – singers, instrumentalists, and groups.  Its purpose is to recognize and encourage young artistes in their studies and pursuit of music, to highlight their talent, and demonstrate their musical potential.

This contest is approved by Anthony’s Cari-Jazz and the NLCB.

How Do You Qualify?

The Award is open to Nationals resident in Trinidad and Tobago who attend or have recently – within the last year – completed a University-level music course or Programme.  The Award targets students from the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) or the University of the West Indies (UWI), or COSTATT.  Other music programmes within the twin-island will be considered upon completion of the Entry process.

The Anthony’s Cari-Jazz Student Music Award Programme focuses on ‘Caribbean Jazz’ as played by Caribbean artistes and those of the Caribbean diaspora who explore the sounds, rhythms, styles and genres of all the Caribbean islands.

The contest is open to 3rd and 4th year students and 1st year graduates in Trinidad and Tobago.

Thirty (30) students will be selected and presented to the Adjudication Committee.

Process for Selection – Entry and Submission

Students are selected based on a recommendation from their professors or tutors.  They are required to submit a 5-minute music video of their performance along with the accompanying Entry Fee of $100.  Musical selections should be focused on Caribbean Jazz.  Submissions for the Award close on March 31, 2023.

Judging and Final Selection

The top four (4) scoring entrants will be announced by June 1, 2023.  They will be invited to perform at the Winners’ Recital: Live Performance where adjudication by a different team of judges will occur.  Performances are required to be 20 to 30 minutes long and span the breath of their performance skills in Caribbean Jazz.  The winner will receive a $10,000 bursary.
