Songshine is back with a special tribute to the Women of 10 Sisters. 10 Sisters was a popular roving concert series created in 2002 by Paula Obe and Annessa Baksh, featuring women singers, writers, poets and performers.

New York- based poet Lynne Procope, a former US National Poetry Slam champion, will join a selection of former 10 Sisters alumnae and new cast members on Thursday March 2nd, at the next Songshine.

10 Sisters made inspiring and entertaining appearances at multiple venues, including Martin’s on the Boulevard, Little Carib Theatre and Kariwak Hotel, Tobago, and boasted the likes of author Lisa Allen-Agostini, Jamoo artist Avion Blackman, Dr. Gabrielle Hosein, singer and Songshine producer Gillian Moor, and late poet Marylin Pantin.

The March show will take place at Kafe Blue on Wrightson Road, and will feature Obe, Allen-Agostini, and Moor, along with other former cast members Elspeth Duncan and Dr Gabrielle Hosein.

Caribbean jazz artist Ruth Osman, and writer Krys-Darcelle Dumas will also join the program.

Procope is a Trinidadian poet living in New York, and co-author of the collaborative collection, Burning Down the House. She is a widely published writer, educator, editor, and curator, as well as former ED and co-founder of the louderARTS Project, editor in chief of Union Station Magazine and current Ideas Editor for Brooklyn’s National Sawdust. She is also a Cave Canem fellow.

As usual at Songshine there will be an open-mic segment where audience members have the opportunity to show their stuff.

Admission costs $100 and showtime is 7pm. Doors open at 6pm and open-mic performers are asked to arrive early for registration. Information: 741-1569.
