Brass 2 the World’s front woman Amrika Mutroo is in our Fast Five hot seat this week and raring to take on our questions.
1. Her Magazine (HM): How has the Carnival been treating you?
Amrika Mutroo (AM): Carnival has been treating me really well. I’ve enjoyed the festivities thus far and the preparation for performances, even in this short season. It has been quite exciting!
2. HM: Where have you performed since the season got started?
AM:I have done several shows with Brass 2 the World events such as Carnival Village, Blow Mano Blow Pavement Lime, A Team Live along with some other private shows. I’ve also been honoured and privileged to perform as a special guest at several Prisons such as MSP, Port of Spain, Golden Grove Women’s prison and Carrera.
3. HM: What are the names of your 2024 releases? Give us your favourite line from one of these songs?
AM: For this season I released a power soca titled ‘Problems’ my favourite line from this tune is ‘As de jersey come off is problems!!!
4. HM: In such a short season, what do you do to maintain your energy on stage?
AM: That’s a good question because when I’m not on stage, God alone knows how tired I really feel from my hectic schedule. But God somehow has been giving me that grace. I also must say my interaction with audiences and fellow artistes has literally given me that drive of energy I need for the stage.
5. HM: Where can your fans see your next?
AM: You’d definitely see me performing with Brass 2 the World for some NCC events next; Dimanche Gras and Kings and Queens of Carnival, to name a few.

What do you like most about being a frontline singer in a band?
As a frontliner I love the ability to show that I am a versatile woman in soca, to effortlessly blend musical prowess with a dynamic fashion sense, creating a captivating fusion of artistry.
Being a frontliner allows me to seamlessly navigate through the vibrant spectrum of soca, infusing traditional beats with contemporary elements to even performing various genres of music spanned across decades of timeless music.
Performing with my team on stage makes the journey so much more enjoyable as well. I’ve been learning so much and growing each day with a greater sense of love and appreciation for teamwork and the positive impact it has.
Many would know me over the years as a calypsonian whose delivery is quite precise and articulate, with a serious passion for bringing over social issues. Now that I am an a part of this musical family, it has taught me to have fun on stage and appreciate a greater interaction with the audience that wants to enjoy themselves and free-up.
This multifaceted approach not only showcases my talent but also exemplifies the modern, empowered woman making a footprint in the dynamic world of soca..
