Baba Ayinde Onilu and his band enthralled the Songshine audience at Kafe Blue this month. With his amazing array of hand crafted, organic musical instruments, Onilu transported the kaiso-themed club to a riverside, creating all the sounds of nature.

Vocalist Patrice Inglesbirth showed her soulful talent, earning many new fans, and Mark Brewster, on pan, keyboards and flute, added melody and vibrance for a memorable and moving set.

The night’s other featured act, author Andre Bagoo held the crowd’s attention with a reading from his new collection of short stories, The Dreaming (Peepal Tree Press), taking listeners into his characters’ world.

As usual, the open mic platform attracted many talented folk with varied offerings, including Yard Fowl in full rooster regalia, emerging young soca artist Campii, poet Marcus Hazel, and captivating first-timer Shanice Smith.

The next edition of Songshine, hosted by Gillian Moor, will take place at Kafe Blue on Thursday, October 6th. For more info, please contact 741-1569.
