Now that the books are closing, the spotlight is opening.
The Prime Minister’s Best Village Trophy Competition is calling on Trinidad and Tobago’s next generation of singers, dancers, drummers, actors, filmmakers, writers and creators to make this vacation one to remember.
The action begins on Monday, July 13 with the “Junior Best Village and Extravaganza” kicking off what promises to be one of the competition’s most youth-driven editions yet.
Forget the idea that Best Village is only about “old-time” culture.
This year’s programme, themed “The Heart of Culture,” is making room for today’s creatives too, with opportunities ranging from traditional folk performances to Scriptwriting and Short Film competitions, Village Olympics and Folk Games, and the return of the prestigious Miss La Reine Rivé pageant.
It’s all about giving young people a platform to represent their village, develop their talents and discover that culture isn’t something you just inherit—it’s something you help create.
And if you need proof that Best Village can launch stars, look no further than Trisha Villafana, who captured the coveted Miss La Reine Rivé 2025 title representing the Rangila Dance Company and St. Andrew/St. David. Last year’s competition also crowned champions in Folk Theatre, Drumology and East Indian Devotional Song, proving there’s room for every kind of talent.
The programme continues right through the school vacation, with the Junior Best Village and Extravaganza running until July 24, Scriptwriting and Short Film entries closing on July 31, Village Olympics and Folk Games on August 15, the Best of Best Village Grand Show on August 22, before wrapping up around Republic Day with the crowning of a new Miss La Reine Rivé.
Whether you’re stepping onto a stage for the first time or representing your community with pride, Best Village is throwing down the challenge.
This vacation, don’t just watch culture. Be part of it.
