South nail technician puts south Trinidad on the map of the world in nail technology.

Lecah Maloney from Salazar Trace Point Fortin is a University Graduate with a BSc. in Leadership and Management who once dreamt of becoming an HR or Marketing Manager as her career. She also had a desire to be an entrepreneur, but society at the time didn’t have the latter as the status quo for success.

You were expected to work for the government or a popular company to be successful. After finishing my degree, I quickly realized that jobs weren’t as easy to access as I expected it to be. Furthermore, becoming a manager for a company was very far fetched,” Lecah explained.

Luckily, at the same time, she had a hobby “doing nails” that she would do with her older sister for free, who later gave her the capital to start on her own to make the extra allowance needed. That hobby then became her career.

It has taken me to places like the Bahamas, Orlando and Los Angeles where I was able to gain knowledge and show off my talent. At Los Angeles I was certified by an International Brand, “Mia Secret” as an Educator and Technician. I also retail the product from the brand.”

Representing T&T

In recognition of her success, Lecah never fails to represent her nationality.

“I represent our wonderful Twin Island of Trinidad and Tobago wherever I go and often get compliments that my work is extraordinary. My desire is to not just put our country on the map for Professional Nail Education and Service but also my South Land, Point Fortin.”

Lecah’s story is one that is truly inspiring and speaks to young men and women coming out of university and even secondary school. She defies the idea that one must have a government job or work for a well-established company in order to be successful. There is so much skill associated with a trade and it always has the potential to be successful since your success is only limited by how much work you place into your craft. With hardwork and perseverance, anything is possible.
